Your Organization's Character SystemesThere are many problems with using the concept of "culture" to explain the differences between organizations and to effect major change.  There is a more reliable and readily available concept to use in understanding why organizations behave the way they do: that is the organization's character.
The Problem With The Concept Of Organizational Culture

carrePaul Dobson, a British specialist who has concluded that one cannot change organizational culture, one can only compensate new behaviors, has written, "The definition of culture is just about the ugliest can of worms that you are likely to come across in the social sciences.  Anthropologists, sociologists, psychologists, management scientists and business strategists, to name but a few, have all tried to define it...   Unfortunately few of these authors explain how or why culture leads to commitment, produces social stability or guides behavior, and so on."

The Purpose Of This Training Program
