Investing in

French Startups

SystemesWe are based in "Silicon Sentier" in Paris.  The "Sentier" is the old rag trade area of Paris which is now becoming the equivalent of Silicon Alley in New York. This square kilometer right next to the traditional Stock Exchange benefits from excellent broadband and ISP services and network, or "club" effects.   The  cafés in the narrow side-streets are hives of creativity.  They are where groups of young entrepreneurs  trade ideas and tips over morning coffee, midday lunch or evening table games.  SYRE, in addition to working with companies in the traditional economy, also consults with some of these startups and we are incubating three of our own, two in Paris and one in Toulouse.  If you are interested in investing in a French start-up or if you would like to know how to establish a presence here, please contact us.

carreThe startups which are looking for investment can basically be found in four areas (1) the broadband/storewidth area ("storewidth" is a George Gilder term) incorporating VoIP and french-patented QoS (2) the ASP and and regional platform area (3) the import-export business to business area and (4) an innovative concept in the the travel industry.

Trait vert

carreHow does one overcome individual and company wide perceptual and cognitive barriers? What importance should be given to the role of intuition in running a company? In its training and consulting activities Syre gives answers to these questions (while realising that its task is to make the company thirsty to create, not to slake its thirst with cookie-cutter solutions). Syre consultants can point to factors in the environment and settings which favour creativity (space, time to think, innovation centres, creative workshops). They can teach the techniques necessary to define the objective, how to situate the objective (or problem), how to avoid the temptation to go after the objective before it has been defined or even decided that it is the correct one, how to generate tactics and solutions for problems, how to measure the potential impact of these solutions, how finally to select the right solution and implement it. The ideas of Peter Drucker, James Brian Quinn, Henry Mintzberg and Gareth Morgan have all fed into the methodologies of Systèmes & Ressources.
